In Vegas Fact

Construction cranes are seen over Resorts World Las Vegas, left, on Oct. 26, 2019. At the right is Drew Las Vegas.

The live-panda exhibit is long forgotten.

But Resorts World Las Vegas is still coming. But now it’s the summer of 2021, not late 2020.

And the cost of the project on the north Strip in Las Vegas has ticked up from $4 billion to $4.3 billion.

There are a few other notable items in the Nov. 21 announcement on Resorts World Las Vegas, a project of Malaysia-based Genting Group.

The project will now include:

— A 5,000-capacity state-of-the-art theater for residencies and corporate events.

— A 75,000-square-foot nightlife and daylife concept.

— A 50-foot diameter video globe that will display more than 6,000 square feet of LED content.

In its latest announcement, Resorts World is described as a “new luxury hotel experience” with “Asian-inspired touches.”

It’s a distant cry from 2015 when the project planned for the former site of the Stardust was first unveiled. At that time, it was described as a $4 billion Chinese-themed megaresort with a live-panda exhibit and a replica of the Great Wall of China. The Stardust was imploded in 2007.

The latest announcement offers a few other details on the project that will have two towers totaling 3,500 guest rooms on roughly 87 acres.

Plans include:

— A downsized 110,000 square-foot casino with slots, table games, high-limit gaming areas, private gaming salons, live poker and a 14,000-square-foot entertainment zone, which will include a race and sports book and will feature live entertainment. Original plans called for a 175,000 square-foot casino.

— Some 350,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.

— A 27,000-square-foot spa.

Resorts World Las Vegas is north of Encore and Trump International. Clark County Fire Station 12 is nearby.

Gaming industry veteran Scott Sibella is president of Resorts World Las Vegas.

W.A. Richardson Builders is construction manager for the project. More than 1,500 construction workers were on the site in late September.
