On May 9, the Monte Carlo on the south Strip in Las Vegas was formally rebranded as the Park MGM. Here’s three things of note about the hotel, which opened in 1996:
— The hotel was originally a joint venture between Mirage Resorts and Gold Strike Resorts. Mirage Resorts was then headed by Steve Wynn. Mirage Resorts was bought out by MGM and the company was known as MGM Mirage for a while before eventually becoming MGM Resorts International. You have probably heard about what happened to Steve Wynn.
— For those who remember “old Vegas” or enjoy hearing about it, the hotel is situated on part of the former site of the Dunes golf course. Mirage Resorts bought the Dunes in 1992 (there’s Steve Wynn’s old company again), imploded it in spectacular fashion in 1993, and Wynn eventually built Bellagio where the Dunes once stood.
— It costs money to park at the Park MGM. You can expect to pay anywhere from $9 to $15 for self-parking and $16-$24 for valet parking at the property. Credit that idea to executives at MGM Resorts International.
