Remodeling at a strip shopping center that once housed an Albertson’s and CVS Pharmacy is seen Wednesday, March 24, 2021, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The center is being redeveloped into a data and operations center.

A strip shopping center in central Las Vegas that once housed an Albertson’s and CVS Pharmacy is being developed as a data and operations center that is slated to open this year.

The project is called The Center at Lake Mead and is located in the 6100 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard near North Jones Boulevard.

A spokeswoman for Kraemer Land Co. said the primary tenant at The Center at Lake Mead will likely be an office user such as a call center operator. Surrounding tenants will be retail.

The site is 110,000 square feet.

The spokeswoman declined to give a dollar cost of the project but described it as “significant.” She added there was interest in the project from around the country.

The Korte Co. is listed on a building permit with the city of Las Vegas for upgrades that include new landscape areas and islands, grading upgrades, exterior facade remodeling, reconfiguration of the parking lot including parking spaces and drive aisles, and new site lighting.

The Kraemer Land Co. website further describes upgrades to include 7:1 parking, power upgrade, fiber upgrade and a complete mechanical upgrade.

The Kraemer spokeswoman described the seven parking spaces/per thousand feet as unique since most commercial developments only have four or five parking spaces/per thousand square feet.

Approximately 20-30 workers are currently on the site, one person close to the project said.

Completion is set for mid-June, the person said.
