OK, we weren’t on the first game of the Yankees-Rays series. The Rays won that game at a sweet underdog price.
But on Saturday, June 23, we quickly jumped on the bandwagon.
This time the Rays were +160, a tempting price indeed for a team that has already show it can beat New York.
The Rays, of course, have flipped the baseball script, often starting a reliever, who may go an inning or two before handing the ball off to someone else.
On Saturday, it was Wilmer (who?) Font for the Rays vs. Sonny Gray of the Pinstripes, who ostensibly was getting better after some rough going early.
And we never flinched before jumping on the Rays, No. 920 in the rotation, at +160.
In fact, Font pitched into the sixth inning and the Rays again shut down the vaunted Yankees lineup by a score of 4-0.
We had some second thoughts in the early innings that maybe the best way to have played this game was to take the Rays on the five-inning line. That would benefit if the Rays’ reverse pitching approach were to work early but the Yankees’ loaded lineup came back later to win the game.
But no matter, the Yankees were effectively stymied for nine innings, and we will take great delight in cashing this ticket.
Did you ask if we were going to roll that over again on the Rays for Sunday, June 24? Yes, we heard you. And the answer is, it’s tempting.
So maybe. And maybe not.
